German luxury car maker Maybach, now owned by Daimler AG, was
founded in the year 1909 by Wilhelm Maybach, the
company was originally known as Maybach-Motorenbau GmbH and was a subsidiary of
Luftschiffbau Zeppelin/GmbH till 1918. The companys operation started by
manufacturing diesel and gas engines for Zeppelins and later it graduated to
building large and luxurious automobiles. Dead for a long time, Maybach was
revived as a brand in the early 2000s with the production of Maybach 57 and
Maybach 62. The numbers signify the length of the cars - 57 being 5.7 meters and
62 being 6.2 meters. Even long after production of these legendary
vehicles ended, they remained very much alive in the hearts and minds of
engineers, designers and automotive enthusiasts
