MRF appoints Gautam Gambhir as new 'Brand Ambassador'

MRF Limited, a pioneer in promoting and sponsoring sporting events, heroes and infrastructure like the Pace Foundation, today appointed new Team India hero Gautam Gambhir as its new 'Brand Ambassador.' Charman and Managing Director K M Mammen, who formally handed over the agreement to the stylish Delhi left handed opening batsman after making the announcement, said the contract with the previous brand ambassador Sachin Tendulkar had expired recently, but talks were going on with the 'little master' to extend it. "Gambhir will be yet another brand ambassador for us", he said, adding the choice was obvious with the batsman emerging as one of the most important names in Indian cricket." This was in the wake of his continued spell of performances in all forms of the game, he said, adding "Gauti, as nicknamed by his fellow cricketers, is on the top of the ICC Test rankings, the first Indian in over five years to achieve this feat." Asked how he felt about playing a new role Gambhir said "it's a great honour." Asked if he would be under pressure taking over from an icon like Sachin Tendulkar as brand ambassador, Gambhir said "on the other hand it will instil more confidence in me to perform rather than put pressure on me." MRF's Marketing Executive K Verghese said the contract with Gambhir, as per MRF's tradition, would be for three years. "We always try to continue our relations with our brand ambassadors and the sportspersons we sponsor", he observed.
