TVS Motor sales surge 42 pc in December

Two-wheeler maker TVS Motor Company today announced that it has clocked a 42 per cent growth at 1,71,790 units in December 2010, spurred by significant demand from across all its product segments. The company had sold 1,20,913 units during the corresponding month of the previous year. The cumulative sales for the period April-December 2010 stood at 15,12,896 units. Total two-wheeler sales (including exports) recorded an increase of 41 per cent at 1,68,359 units in December 2010 against 1,19,701 units registered in December 2009, the Chennai-based firm said in a statement. Domestic sales surged by 46 per cent with sales of 1,49,357 units in December 2010 against 1,02,479 units reported in December 2009.

Scooter sales grew by an impressive 94 per cent with sales of 41,804 units as against 21,566 units recorded in December 2009. Motorcycles sales recorded a growth of 24 per cent with sales of 61,414 units in December 2010 as against 49,560 units in December 2009.

The company exported 19,002 units of two wheelers in December 2010 against 17,222 units registered in December 2009.

It sold 3,431 units of three wheelers in December 2010, against 1,212 units sold in the same month of the previous year. Cumulative three wheeler sales for the period April-December 2010 stood at 27,794 units against 8,707 units, a growth of 219 per cent.
