Car maker Toyota Kirloskar Motor today reported a 61 per cent increase in sales during April, 2011 at 9,681 units as compared to 6,001 units sold in the same month last year, due to impressive sales of its latest sedan 'Etios'. The company has sold 4,657 units of the Etios in April, 2011, it said in a statement. "The growth last month can be attributed to the encouraging sales of Etios. We have so far sold 12,758 units since its launch in December last year," TKM Deputy Managing Director (Marketing) Sandeep Singh said. However, the other products showed a drop in sales, due to a fallout from the production adjustment observed from April 25 to June 4, 2011. The company earlier announced temporary production adjustment in light of the supply difficulties, following the March 11 earthquake and tsunami in Japan. "We have incurred a loss of about 2,900 units in April due to the production adjustment. However, the actual impact of the temporary production adjustment will be felt in the month of May, as we will operate at 30 per cent of our normal capacity. We deeply regret the inconvenience caused to our customers," Mr Singh said. Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) is a joint venture between the Japan's Toyota Motor Corp and the Kirloskar Group. |
