Car maker Nissan Motor India today launched its
mid-size sedan Sunny at a starting price of Rs 5.78 lakh. With a 16.95 km
per litre of fuel economy and five speed manual transmission, the Sunny is
powered by a modern 4-cylinder 1.5 litre double overhead camshaft petrol
engine. The engine can churn out 99 PS of power at 6000 rpm and a maximum
torque of 134 Nm at 4000 rpm. The automaker has introduced the car in
three variants (XE, XL and XV) priced between Rs 5.78 lakh and Rs 7.68
lakh at showrooms in New Delhi. Launching the sedan here, Nissan Motor
India managing director Kiminobu Tokuyama said, We have been able to price
the Sunny aggressively as 85 per cent of the components have been sourced
locally. He said the car, designed in Japan with significant inputs from
Indian market, is aimed at India s young and stylish professionals. Sunny,
being manufactured on the consummate V-platform in Chennai, will be
available in the domestic market from the beginning of next month and the
delivey will start from October 3. The managing director said the car will
be available to customers across the country without any waiting period
for delivery. Mr Tokuyama said the Sunny will be sold in 170 countries
around the world. At present, Nissan Motor India has 45 dealerships across
the country.
