BMW Group debuts premium small car segment; launches "Mini" in India

Entering the premium small car segment in India, Germanys BMW today launched four models of Mini brand, at a price ranging between Rs 24.90 lakh and Rs 31.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The models--Mini Cooper, Mini Cooper S, Mini Cooper Convertible and Mini Cooper S Countryman--are completely built unit (CBU). The vehicles are available in the domestic markets from now onwards, BMW Group India president Andreas Schaaf said at the launch function at the ongoing 11th Auto Expo in the capital. Around the world, Mini has become a byword in the premium small car segment for expressive design, premium quality and unmistakable driving fun, Dr Schaaf said. He said the company will set up three exclusive outlets--two in Delhi and one in Mumbai--during this year. With the launch of Mini, the BMW Group debuts in the premium small car segment in India. Dr Schaaf said the Group s main focus in the start-up phase will be to concentrate on successfully establishing the Mini brand in India. At a later stage, the Group will focus on further development of dealer network and higher sales volumes, he added. At present, the luxury carmaker assembles its 3 and 5 series luxury sedans and sport-utility vehicles X1 and X3 in India. It imports the 6 and 7 series sedans, SUV X5, crossover vehicle X6 and sports cars Z4 and M-series.
