automaker Mercedes-Benz today launched two products--M-Class and SLS AMG
Roadster--in India and expects a double-digit growth in the luxury car
segment in the domestic market this year. M-Class, a luxury sports utility
vehicle, is priced at Rs 58-60 lakh, while an open top vehicle SLS AMG
Roadster costs about Rs 3 crore. After unveiling the products at the 11th
Auto Expo here, Mercedes-Benz India MD-cum-CEO Peter Honegg said M-Class
will be locally assembled at the company s Pune facility. It was launched
in the global market about six months back. He said an open top vehicle
SLS AMG Roadster is powered by 6.3 litre V8 engine which can go from 0-100
km per hour in 3.8 seconds. Asked about the sales growth, Mr Honegg said
Speaking on the occasion, Mercedes-Benz India MD-cum-CEO Peter Honegg
said the company is looking at achieving a double-digit growth in the
luxury car segment in the domestic market this year. Our plans are to
sell more than what we sold in 2011 and to satisfy the customers even
more, he told reporters. He added that sales are likely to pick up in
the second half of this year, but lot depend on the what steps government
announces. The company had sold 7,430 units in 2011 as compared to 5,819
units in the previous year. It also showcased the future design cues through
Concept A-Class and fuel cell technologies. |
