Nissan Motor Company today unveiled a seven-seater car Evalia at the ongoing
11th Auto Expo in the capital. The Japanese firm also aims to increase
its dealership network from existing 50 to 150 in India by 2015. Speaking
on the occasion, Andy Palmer, Executive Vice President (Global Planning
and Programme Management) at Nissan Motor Company, said the Elavia will
be launched in the middle of this year. Mr Palmer said it will be very
competitively priced, adding We are targeting multi-purpose vehicle segment
. He said the Evalia boasts best in class fuel economy and a truly versatile
interior with multi-use functionality. The Elavia, which was developed
by Nissan in partnership with Ashok Leyland, is expected to be launched
in the middle of this year. The car will be manufactured at the company
s plant near Chennai. Currently, Micra and Sunny are being produced at
the Chennai facility. Besides Evalia, it also showcased a zero-emission
electric car LEAF, Nissan GTR and Compact Sports Concet (CSC). Talking
about the dealership network, Nissan Motor Company corporate vice president
Gilles Normand said the company s target is to have 150 outlets over a
period of three years. Asked about the company s plan to ramp up capacity,
Mr Normand said, We are adding a second production line at the plant in
Oragadam near Chennai by March this year. Out of the Rs 4,500 crore investment
which is be made by 2015, the company has spent Rs 2,800 crore at the
Oragadam plant. |
